Last year the first series of Benefits Street, filmed on James Turner Street in Birmingham, sparked a political and media debate about poverty and welfare with one of the street’s residents, ‘White Dee’, becoming a national figure.

This time the series focuses on Kingston Road on the Tilery Estate in Stockton-On-Tees, an area hit hard by recession and economic decline.

Leyla Hussein, a campaigner and mother, was cut when she was seven years old. Four women held her down, while a fifth cut her. Leyla screamed for her mother to help her, before passing out. There are 66,000 women and girls living with the terrible consequences of FGM in Britain. And with an estimated 24,000 girls at risk of mutilation today, Leyla sets out on a campaign to eradicate FGM in the UK.
