The Biggest Little Railway in the World

5 x 60' Starts 8pm Sunday 7th Jan Channel 4

A team of 56 model railway enthusiasts and engineers led by Dick Strawbridge attempt to do what our Victorian forbears could not – build a railway connecting Fort William with Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The only difference is they are doing it in miniature, building the longest model railway in the world at 71 miles.

The Victorians gave up because the terrain was simply too challenging and inhospitable for railway building, but our modern day navvies are unperturbed. For 12 days they must camp by the track as it extends across Scotland - crossing rivers and scaling mountains as they devise engineering solutions to anything the Highlands can throw at them.

While being a ground-breaking television event, The Biggest Little Railway in the World is also a joyful celebration of British eccentricity and of a little seen, but widely loved hobby.
